BESS Project Procurement

Client: European power generation company

Project size: 350 MW / 1,400 MWh

Task: Commercial and contractual management of the EPC tender, including preparation of tender documents, bidder clarifications, tender evaluation, negotiations and contract award.

Target: Select a technically and commercially suitable EPC contractor, establish a clear allocation of risks and interfaces, and minimise potential delays and claims during project execution.

Project details: Development of a large-scale battery energy storage system at the site of a former coal-fired power plant in Germany. The project includes the integration of the BESS into the existing site infrastructure and its connection through an existing transformer. The EPC tender involves international battery suppliers and construction companies and covers engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning.

Outcome: Tender and negotiation process ongoing. Particular focus is placed on clear technical interfaces, performance guarantees, programme flexibility, integration of existing infrastructure and the prevention of claims.

Public Procurement for HVDC (HGÜ) Grid Expansion Project

Client: German electric power grid company

Projekt size: 800 Milllion Euro

Task: Tendering and negotiation of construction contracts for underground DC power cable

Targe: Evaluate commercially and technically suitable suppliers, finish project in time, avoid claims.

Project details: Public procurement according to EU Laws and SektVO in Germany. Construction works for 700km DC Power cables from the North Sea to Bavaria split in 10 sections. My responsibility was the tendering, the negotiation, and the award of 5 of those sections plus the cable section station. Overall project size will likely exceed EUR 15 Billion.

Outcome: Award to internationally recognised construction companies. Maintaining a certain flexibility in the schedule while reducing claims risk to a  minimum.

Public Tendering Services

Client: Large International Oil and Gas Maintenance Company

End-customer: National Oil Company in Romania

Contract size: 230 Million Euro

Project details: Tendering consultancy for large scale oilfield operations and maintenance contract. Contract duration 8 years, overall tender volume approx 1.8 Billion Euro of which I managed to win contracts  of 230 Million Euros.

 

Topics: Pre-qualification, developing tendering strategy in close cooperation with international HQ, perform site surveys, estimate final tender price, risk assessment, HSEQ related issues. Mobilization of execution team, implementation of maintenance and operations strategies, takeover of fixed and mobile assets, takeover of maintenance and operations personnel (around 1400 people).

Main target: Winning of large scale oilfield operations and maintenance tender, implementation of novel strategies and technologies (e.g. CMMS), service improvement, improvement of plant reliability and uptime.

Tendering of large EPC Projects

Client: Large International Oil and Gas Company

Contract size: Two projects each around 40 Million Euro

Project details: My tasks here were related to the tendering of two refinery EPC projects

 

Topics: Developing tendering strategy, pre-qualify potential bidders, create tender documents including contracts, harmonizing scope, tender, negotiate, award.

Main target: Evaluation of the most economical solution and award to the best bidder with key focus on HSE, quality and delivery time.
